Baby rooms

Kelly asked us this week to show you our baby rooms!

I don't have any babies yet but I already know what I would like the room to look like and we happen to own the furniture. My god daughter was getting a big girl bed and they were getting rid of her baby furniture.  It is in storage till we need it. I am pretty sure I will set up a baby room super early when we are expecting.
*
This is our Pottery Barn changing table and the reason we wanted the furniture! My husband thought I was crazy when I told him about it but I think he is secretly excited about it.
Here are just a few ideas of how to incorporate it into a room...
I plan on using the babies monogram in the center of the unit above the pad.
We also have a crib that was also my god daughters, I believe it looks something like this
I don't mind it but I am head over heels in love with this style
Over three years of marriage I have picked up a few things that I just fell in love with. I still love every single thing I have purchased. I love how a common color scheme has emerged.
I purchased the towel sets for $15 dollars each from TJ MAXX (top left and right), they contain two full sets of towels. A great deal since Pottery Barn kids had something almost identical when I purchased these for $40 for one set not two. I am so tempted to pull them out and use them in our guest room.
The top middle thing in the picture is actually a set of four bins for the upper sections of our changing table. They are painted metal with raised dots as you can see in the picture. I had my eye on these at Babies R Us and I grabbed these when they discontinued them.  I planned on purchasing white but they were all sold out,  I love the green now. Target carries something similar now.
The last three items are from Target (one of them is laying inside the bins).  I picked these up 2 summers ago and still love them! I am glad I didn't pick up the entire line since it has been so long and still no baby.  The fleece blanket is just so soft and cozy. The package with three items are receiving blankets.
I have always known I wanted one of these Pottery Barn chairs but when I saw this one I instantly fell in love.  I actually saw the fabric on a tent they carried and wished out loud to my husband that they made something else with the same fabric.
Isn't it so cute, you may have to click to see the detail better.
*
Now on to bedding, the part I haven't really figured out yet.
If I were pregnant right now I would most likely pick one of these from Babies R Us. My husband loved the monkey when I showed it to him, he even go the silliest grin on his face. I will just have to see though when they day actually comes.  We already plan on finding out what we will be having so we will decorate accordingly.  I have been tempted in the past to purchase crib bedding that was on sale but I am so glad I never did.  I can't even remember what any of it looked like now.  I would be able to describe all of the above already purchased items though and that's why they are placed safely in my baby box.
*
I hope that you have enjoyed my tour.  Check back soon, we have gotten the go ahead from my doctor to start trying as soon as next week.
(I was on an antibiotic that causes birth defects)

my to do list

I am going to be house sitting for the next five days and I am so excited to check some things off my to do list while I am there!

*work on getting my white legs a little sun
*run on the treadmill that is in work out room attached to the master suite
*explore some of the trails by their house
*drink a glass of wine while taking a bath in the amazing tub
*power through my huge stack of magazines

I am confident that I can accomplish these daunting tasks!
*
Seriously though isn't it so hard to get all the magazines read before they pile up?

Today

Today I was able to get a ton of things crossed off my list.  I really hadn't planned on going through papers today but I ended up doing it anyway.  I even convinced my husband to help me!  It took me at least 3 hours to simply go through and sort 3 boxes of papers.  While I did that my husband condensed and weeded through all the files from previous years, shredded papers and then filed all the papers to keep.
*
It was so great to have him help me accomplish this huge task. I usually clean and work on the house on days when he is at the firehouse so when he comes home it looks clean. He has no idea really how much work went into it though.
The good news now is that our place is almost 100% in order. Don't be jealous it only took us four years to accomplish this huge task. Next time I am unpacking the minute we move in and finding a place for everything right away.
*
I am going to leave you with a picture that I took at my work meeting tonight.

Wine makes meetings so much better!

Grandin Road

I just started receiving the Grandin Road catalog and came across this...
You may not see the need for such an item but in our west facing condo it would be perfect!
We love our porch but during the summer the huge west facing windows really heat up our place.  The temperature is at least 10 degrees warmer in the afternoon sun.  Having an umbrella like that would really help keep out the sun without us having to close our blinds every afternoon. I think we will be keeping our blinds closed though because I just can't justify purchasing it for $430 before taxes or shipping.
*
They also had these really cool pictures,

They are $150 and can hold up to 10 letters!
I may see if I can do something like this on my own.
Wouldn't that make a great wedding present?

Getting nervous

Friday we had a few returns to make at the mall so we stopped by again to look at the necklace I want.
We learned that they have been selling out as fast as they get them in so we decided to order one for an anniversary present (a few weeks early).  They were all out online so the sales woman started calling other stores.  By the time she got to the 3rd store that was out of stock I started to get really nervous.  After a few more calls she finally located one and it will be at my door in a about a week!
I have loved keys for a while now and I am so excited to combine so many things I love...
a simple everyday necklace, keys, lots of sparkle and an antique look
How perfect is it for a Realtor? Plus it will really compliment my wedding rings.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Today is a very special day!
Today my Husband's 28Th birthday!

All of our special days seem to hold multiple special occasions for us.
This one is the exact day that we meet at his 21st birthday, 7 years ago!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVE!
*
On top of his birthday we have a very busy day ahead.  We have a baby shower, 3 high school graduation parties and a 60Th birthday party tonight! Since we have such a busy day I am trying to make the entire weekend extra special for him. Getting up at 6 am this morning to teach fire academy wasn't the greatest start to his birthday.

I just learned that my cousin's doctor couldn't find her babies heart rate yesterday at their appointment.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Keeping cool

I thought that I would pass along a money saving tip to all of you.  I guess it's not so much a tip but a gadget.
It lets us know the temperature inside our place and outside.  I really is so nice to have when the weather starts to heat up.  Now I know exactly when to turn on and off our air conditioning and when it is time to open the windows.   I love having my windows open when possible to cool our place off, Colorado cools off to a much more comfortable temperature at night.
If you are wondering it's made by Oregon Scientific. It was a gift though so I am not sure where it is from.  I would guess any hardware store or even Target would carry them.
*
Does everyone else love to have a cool breeze come in through an open window?
We have new neighbors in the condo across from us and they NEVER open their blinds or windows.  I can't imagine living like that. I understand that our family rooms practically look into one another but our kitchens and master bedrooms have the most amazing views.  Here is a picture I took this week.  The sky was 10 times more incredible than my camera captured.
Yes it overlooks some garages and our street but it also sits above the neighborhood next to us so all we really see during the summer is the beautiful tree tops.

What day is it?

I am conviced that today Sunday or Saturday so I almost just typed a weekend recap.  I have had my days mixed up almost everyday the past week.  At least I didn't think today was Memorial day like the checker today at the grocery!
*
We have had a great couple of days even if it wasn't all weekend.  Sunday I watched my friends nine months old for a good part of the day.  I wasn't quite sure how active he would be but I soon learned that he is  already crawling and grabbing anything he could crawl to.  I brought him back to my house that was pretty trashed.  I finally had the motivation to get all the laundry done and get everything picked up and put away.  I was shocked at how much I got done while I was watching him.  It made me hopeful that I can keep it clean when we have kids.
*
Today my husband and I both had the day off so we took advantage of the headway that I made in cleaning our place.  He wiped down the entire kitchen, mopped the floor and cleaned our entire bathroom! I have yet to ever clean our shower because I always have him do it!
In the two days I did 8 loads of laundry total.   Good thing I don't mind laundry, I love having a closet full and organized with clean clothes.
What better way to celebrate a clean home then have friends over for dinner!
We also invited my goddaughter over so our friends little girl would have someone to play with.
Just one of the many goofy things my husband love to do with little ones when they visit.
*
I also decided to try and find a rug for our family room.  I was hoping to find one I loved that could cover our terrible carpet stains.  The carpet was bad when we moved in but over the past 4 years it has slowly gotten worse.  White carpet is never a good idea.  I love the rug I bought but it is a lot small than I wanted.  There is a bigger one I liked but I think I will skip it since it is $350, for that price I could just replace the carpet.  Why does the price jump so much for just a few extra feet of rug?
Now that I am looking the photo it isn't too bad and it really brightens the place up.
Have you already noticed from my picture what flower is in season?
Peonies!

Squirrel

My Husband just cornered a squirrel on our front porch. It was ripping apart the trash bag that I put out this morning. I was watching him come up the stairs and was able to take a photo.
The underlining has returned, I thought I had it taken care of.

My Heart

Yesterday I was spending time with of our my favorite little girls, Eli.
Eli is three and when she sets her mind that she is going to wear something for the day it can't be changed.  Today after she got up from her nap she needed to change back out of pj's into something to go pick her brothers up from school.  She picked a long fancy dress that was so big on her it exposed her chest.  She then picked out a shirt to wear over it and said the sweetest thing to me...

she said "That's my heart and I need to save it till I get married" in the sweetest, innocent most sincere voice.
I laughed at how she had interpreted it then I cried because of how accurately a 3 year old can perceive things. I wish that my high school kids were still that smart.

Star Trek

Yesterday I finally gave into hubby and went to the movies with him.  He absolutely loves going to see movies, if they weren't so expensive I would bet we would see at least two a week.
We saw the new Star Trek.  I can't say that I would chose to watch it again but it really wasn't that bad. Plus two hours staring at this face wasn't that bad.

I would pick him over Robert Pattinson (from Twilight) any day!

key to my heart

Anytime someone asks how long I have been married I automatically answer "almost three years".  It just hit me though that our third anniversary is just one month away!
*
I really wasn't looking for an anniversary present but I stumbled across this online the other day.

I figured that I would check it out when we were walking through the mall last week.  They didn't have one in stock but they pulled it up and showed hubby a picture of it.  I was shocked when he actually liked it and reminded me that our anniversary was coming up soon!

Let sleeping dogs lie

I mentioned the other day that I picked up a new Mac book, I finally got the underlining under control and I am loving it! If you have an Apple store close by stop in and ask them to show you the new track pad. It does different things depending on how many fingers I use!
*
Well part of getting a new computer is organizing all you photos and transferring them from your old computer to the new one. I take at least one photo with my iPhone everyday of something random.  In this process I accumulate tons of random photos, usually of my dog. I just love to take photos of the silly things she does.  She has such a personality and all my photos document this so well.
Lately when I wake up she she has taken my husband's empty spot in bed after he has left for work and she is sleeping quite human like, under the covers with her face out.  She use to just sleep under the covers or on top so I think this switch is so funny. She prefers to sleep in her bed when we go to sleep then switches sometime in the middle of the night.
Here are just a few of the pictures I have taken of her in our bed.
I want to know where your dogs sleep or what human like things do they do?
Tell me in a comment or even better show us!

Scary Moment

Wow I just had a very scary moment this morning. I didn't receive a goodnight call last night from my hubby at the firehouse. I then woke up a half an hour after he should have been home but no hubby yet. I finally got the courage to call the firehouse and luckily it was a friend answered the phone. I had forgotten that hubby is helping teach the fire academy today.  I still have no idea why I didn't get a call but I am sure I will hear why soon.

A picture of him training at work that a friend just sent me recently.

No more!

I had my follow up appointment for my dermatologist yesterday!
I have been so completely happy with my doctor and the meds that she put me on. I am not 100% clear but I am not regularly developing cysts and my little bumps along my jawline are almost all gone.  I can just use creams now instead of an antibiotic. You may remember when I was getting sick from the antibiotic that I was taking, I talked about it here. After a few weeks of taking them my symptoms went completely away. Until a few weeks ago if I wasn't taking it every 12 hours on the dot I would develop a nasty cyst almost immediately.  It would scab and scar and really were no fun at all.  It's not easy to be 25 and have worse skin than when you were in high school.  I still have quite a bit of healing to do from these but I am not developing new ones even if I miss a pill!
*
The bigger part of this news is that we can pull the goalie in about two weeks!  My husband is so happy and ready to start trying again.  I am as well but really it is so scary to actually give the go ahead to drastically change your life. There really is nothing more in this world that I desire more than to be a mother though. I think we may leave it up to God for a few months and really start trying at the end of the summer.  Up until a short while ago I was sure I would have to continue taking the meds since they were making such a big difference. I was panicked at the thought of stopping them if I couldn't even be 30 minutes late on a dose without a flair up.  I must have had something in my body that the antibiotics killed if they are making such a difference in a relatively short time.  I also have been running/walking and getting 4 miles in at least a few times a week and I really think that helped.

Finally super nice weather

Today was such a perfect Colorado day!
I can't tell you how many people told me it really finally feels like spring today.
I got to wear my new running skirt because the weather was finally nice.  I love running in my yoga pants but I wanted something short so I could get a little sun on my legs.  I got it last week at target and love it! The skirt has shorts underneath that didn't matter if they rode up because there was a skirt covering them.  It really just looks like a tennis skirt and we all know how cute those are! Here's a picture...
We only made it 2 miles today but with the heat it wore all three of us out faster than normal.  Dog passed out when we got home.
We also had our last evening of Young Life tonight for the school year.  It is always so great to be done for the summer.  It really takes it out of you and you truly need the summer break.  I am planning on spending lots of time with my group of girls this summer so I won't really have time off but I won't have to be putting on a club.  I have decided to do a Redeeming Love bible study with my girls.  I asked all of you about it a while ago and the general response was that the book may be too advanced for going to be sophomores.  I told the girls that I had the best book for us all to read in a few years and when I told them what it was the two of them I worried most about had already read it and loved it.  They are excited to read it again!
A few of my girls, the others where busy with end of the year stuff.

My hair was totally windblown! Exciting news because we got to drive my husband's Wrangler with the top down for the first time this year.

Have you seen a star like this?
My girls LOVE to take tons of photos!  I can always count on them to put them on facebook.

An apple a day!

I am coming to you from our new macbook!
I can't tell you how excited I am about it,  I wanted to get one two years ago when I purchased a pc.  My husband and I figured we shouldn't spend the money though and two years later I realize what a mistake it was.  Two years later we are spending the money we didn't want to spend and my old computer needs a couple hundred before it will be useable again. The only problem I can't figure out so far is how to not have my posts underlined.
I am still learning how to use an apple but I love it so far!
