Acne Help needed

I need some help from all of you out there. I have been having terrible breakouts along my jawline and I can't do anything to prevent or clear them up. I use Solvere (made by the same people as proactive but it has an extra active ingredient) It has cleared up the rest of my face but it won't make a dent on the cysts I continue to get on my jaw. I seem to really breakout about a week before my period but they take weeks to clear up. By the time they heal they start again. I am pretty sure it is caused by hormones.
I am looking for a solution that isn't drastic. We may start trying to get pregnant this summer and lots of solutions can't be used during pregnancy. You aren't even supposed to us Proactive while you are expecting. I am also so tired of having to buy white towels and sheets because everything gets bleached out. Have any of you found a solution to this problem?
I have heard to use good makeup, I currently use bare minerals.

I use Proactiv so I'm not much help, but I also have the same problem. I get breakouts about a week before my period starts on the skin by my ear (where my jaw line starts) and they take FOREVER to heal. I'll be interested to hear what others have to say about this.

I use to be the same way! I now wash my face before bed and in the shower first thing in the morning. No breakouts! Yay, I use two different face washes though. I use Neutrogena in a green bottle (foam) for morning and some Mary Kay orange bottle stuff for night.

I am a Solvere user as well and swear by the stuff! The issue definitely sounds hormonal but I don't know of anything to help that. Sorry!

I get cystic acne, my father does as well. I've found that using benzoyl peroxide helps. Using anything else makes my skin worsen. I tend to wash my face 2x a day, using a sensitive skin clenser, nothing too harsh or abrasive, I put on 10% benzoyl peroxide afterwards and top it off with lotion and under eye cream. This has been keeping the acne to a minimum, but I don't think there's anything to completely get rid of the cystic acne problem.

My dad will swab his cystic acne with hydrogen peroxide 2 or 3x a day, he gets breakouts once every month or so. I'm the same, usually they're right in between my eyebrows and it looks hideous. I also wear clinique makeup but I've yet to find that makeup makes a difference.

Sorry to be so debbie downer, I hope that it gets better for you!

I've had terrible acne for as long as I can remember... but I started using Bare Minerals and the Rare Minerals cleanser and it cleared right up. I was my face at least twice a day... maybe 3 times if I have time/think about it. I know you said you use Bare Minerals, but I would definitely recommend the Rare Minerals line too... I was AMAZED at the results I got. And at how clean my skin felt afterwards. I also tend to break out along my jawline if I'm touching my face a lot... that might be different than what you're talking about, but just fyi. :)

Girl, I was having the SAME thing about a year ago. So I went to the Derm and he said it's a hormonal thing for women in their 20s to break out along their jawline. He suggested I take Tetracycline (sp?) and it cleared it up wonderfully. I used to use Proactive but I just don't think it's worth what it costs! I use that new Neutrogena line of acne products and love it!

OKay, so I am freaking out as I read that you are not to use proactive during pregnancy!?!?! I use the Acne Free which is very comparable to Proactive! I will have to look into this more! I have dealt with hormonal acne for almost 4 years now! I went to the derm as well, and I got differen gel... It didn't do a thing! I then asked my gyno and he said to use noxema! I thought that was pretty funny as I have spend hundreds on this problem to hear a dr tell me to buy a $3 product to clear it up! I use the equate face wipes to clean my face really good and then use the acne free. It works really well, *So far* and has helped with my pregnancy breakouts too.. You might give it a shot (if it is infact safe while your pregnant).... I know how horrible this is to deal with!

I just found your blog an I love it. Here is something weird i found out. A few years ago I was getting all these pimple like bumps around my chin and jaw line. And I rarely had breakouts. I went to a dermatologist and he told me that using toothpaste with floride. It can cause women in their 20's these strange bumps. So you might want to try switching to a non floride toothpaste. I know it sounds crazy!!

If you're looking for something gentle and safe...try either vitamin E oil (put a little on a Q-Tip) or try putting Milk of Magnesia on it with a cotton ball before you go to bed. The MofM also calms down redness due to Rosacea.

hi! just stumbled upon your blog and thought i would leave a bit on info... i had terrible skin right after hubby and i married, stress/hormones i don't know. anyway, i started using philosophy products. they are a little on the pricey side, but i think worth it. i use purity cleanser at night followed by hope in a jar and an exfoliating wash in the morn. it took awhile, but i seldom have any trouble with my skin. i have a link to the products on my blog - stop by and check it out...
