Given up

I have finally given up fighting with my hair over what color I naturally am. For at least 10 years now I have been getting highlights that have slowly gotten blonder and blonder...
The above photo was taken around a year ago. I love the color but I got so tired of paying over $100 every six weeks to maintain the color (that was with a big discount because it was done by a friend).
This is the state that my hair is currently in...
Not terrible but the ends are definitely lighter. When I pull my hair back though my hair looks really dark, this is most likely the best photo to show you what it looks like up...
After so long I am really enjoying seeing what my natural hair color is and that I naturally have a few highlights as you can see above. I am trying to decide though if it is time to take the plunge and just dye it all the same color. I have gone dark before but it always turns out so dark that it really washes me out. I am scared that they are going to change my natural color that I have been working hard to grow out. I could always cut the blond off but I am no where near ready to get rid of my long hair.

I was going to say, cut off the bottom two inches, that'll allow your hair to look more it's natural color and not so juxtaposed between the two colors! But if you're unable to part with the hair, I completely understand!!

I say let it grow out and leave it natural, my mom used to be in the same position as you and now she has a pretty mix of brown and grey hair, I like it a lot better on her than the blonde...especially since I LOVE the blue eyes-brown hair look!

I change my color every time I get it done because I don't know what to do. I always debate going natural because then it won't cost me a fortune every 6 weeks, but whenever I do go more towards my natural color I feel like I look sick. Then, I always end up getting hightlights again.

The last time I was getting my hair done a high school girl was getting highlights for the first time, and I told her she would forever be addicted.

I think your natural color looks lovely! I would let it grow out just so you wouldn't have to pay all that money!

I used to highlight mine blond a lot too. It got to the point where I couldn't keep up with it and looking back, I looked horrible! ha ha, I think you look great and maintenance is so much easier and cheaper in the long run! :)

At the beginning of the year I was sick of getting my hair highlighted so I just had my girl dye my hair my natural color (or close to it) so that when my natural grew out it would just all be the same. I ended up getting it highlighted two months later. But it was a good thought. Your hair looks great dark!

You are quite lucky that both colors look great on you! I would say have fun, change it up a bit and go dark for the winter time! Just grab some great bronzer or blush and rock it!

This is the perfect post for me right now, is that selfish to admit? haha... My hubby told me I should go natural.. I haven't seen my natural hair color in over 10 years! I just know how bad i'm going to hate going thru the process! I just can't keep up with the maitenance! I think yours looks great and inspires me to give in to being natural!

I really like the dark! I used to get highlights as well, but it got to hard to maintain.

I think your hair is beautiful the way it is. I'm kinda going through the same thing. I can't decide whether to dye it or not. But, I am loving my natural color as well. Anyways, I say give it some time and see how it looks in a couple months!

Every 2 years or so I get the urge to dye my hair. The colors always vary. Whenever I am trying to grow the dye out and I have my stylist use a color gloss. I believe she uses a redken one. The color gloss isn't as harsh as a dye and it eventually all fades out at the same time. I match the color to my roots and it helps hide the separation of colors. Ask your stylist about it.

I say keep it natural too! I really like the way that it looks right now! Don't make any more changes! :)

I am in the same position as you are. I always highlight my hair, but it is crazy expensive and I would really like my hair back to its natural color again. I say grow it out and let it be natural.

i completely identify with your story...i had the exact same experience. i also tired of wasting money (&time) getting my hair dyed - only to have it get progressively blonder and blonder...
i finally decided to go back natural...i dyed it (professionally) close to my natural color (a little darker). over time, it faded out and it was hard to notice when it grew out. about 9 months later (after it faded a lot), i dyed with a home semi-permanent "brightening" kit to even it back out. by the time i noticed the "roots" i was able to cut the once-blonde hair and still keep it relatively long...

ps- i love that you lead yl - husband and i met as leaders!

I think you look great with darker hair. I say trim the blonde off (or as much as you can) and leave it your natural color. :)

My hair is it's natural color for the fist time in 15 years (I'd highlighted since I was 15!). I love not having the maintenance and the money I save I can put toward other things (that last longer than 6 weeks). I say grow it out until you can part with the blond ends, but it doesn't' look bad as it is now.
