Facebook gone too far

I just got a message on Facebook that my Brother in Law is expecting a baby and that it's a boy.
His finance is 22 weeks along already and we had no knowledge of any of it.
Seriously telling your family over Facebook that you are expecting and the sex of the baby?

What would your thoughts be if this happened to you?

um yeah, sadly people don't share face-to-face anymore. I found out my brother-in-law's sex of their baby over facebook too. I think people have gone social media crazy.

Wow...facebook before family seems inapropriate to me. Definitely not the medium I would use!

I've heard of that happening before. I can completely understand how frustrating that must be! You'd think they would wait until they told family first!

Um... what the heck?! I'd be SO mad to find out such information over facebook and not over the phone/face-to-face! Not right at all!

Its sad... but its the people who post these things!! Facebook should be secondary to telling family, xxxoo

I agree- facebook has gone COMPLETELY too far. Is is that hard to pick up the phone and call and give the news? It would have taken the same amount of time as composing a message!

It is sad, but I guess that's just how things are lately...I'm hoping that I never hear from someone close to me that they are engaged or expecting, etc. through Facebook, but I'm sure it'll happen at some point!

That is crazy! I would be upset that they didn't tell me before blasting it on FB.

I think I'd be more offended and appalled if I found out they were pregnant via FB. But finding out the gender, not so much. I think that people get so excited to share that they post it from their phones or computers as soon as they get to one...quicker than a phone call! But it does take some getting used to!

In today's world that's a reality...I found out my best friend (he's a dude)-that was in Germany and was going to come home and we would give dating a try-was engaged over Facebook. I feel ya...

It's so sad to me!! I wish the times when people wrote letters, even called you on the phone to tell you big news. Missin' the old days! I feel like it's getting so bad, that it has to revert back at some point.

Umm yeah, not a good thing.. FB is great, but come on... Yikes! I bet he's going to get an earful! :)

I think it is inappropriate. That should be shared with the family face to face or at least over the phone (if they are in another state). But, that is your husband's brother. Don't get me wrong I like FB and how I can see pics of my family and friends...but I don't need to know who is getting potty trained or any other TMI stuff.

Oh wow! You didn't even KNOW they were pregnant! That is a bit ridic! I can understand letting all your friends know the sex via facebook or something, but that is after you've called your family and really close friends to tell them first. I think your husband may have to have some words with him-that would hurt my feelings.

I would be extremely pissed, but I am also extremely close to my BIL and his fiancee!

First of all, I would be way too excited to tell people about my pregnancy just to see the excitement in there faces!!!

I would say facebook has gone a little too far for my taste.

I have to go against the grain here and say it all depends on the extent of the relationship. My BIL/SIL were upset about finding out about a family pregnancy when they have removed themselves completely from the family and do not attempt to stay in touch with any of us anyway. My other SIL certainly didn't feel the need to spare their feelings and had told all of the rest of us that were actually genuinely happy for them face to face about her pregnancy. It was through my FB status saying how excited I was to be an Auntie that they got their panties ruffled.

However, if you're on speaking terms and have no ongoing issues... Yep, that's crazy! I just think logically people would want to share the news more personally!
